Video Editing Reflection

  •  Premiere pro practice
Learning to use Premiere Pro wasn't extremely hard, but I definitely would
not choose to go through it again. To learn the process of putting clips together and editing audio and videos, our teacher gave us video tutorials made as simple as possible. It was a lot of videos, but I did find them to be helpful in doing things I couldn't figure out myself. Over a few classes, I learned from these videos and worked to put together a few interviews and clips of b-roll to make a minute-long clip.
I would describe the experience of creating the clip as tedious. I can and will probably never understand how people do this as a job, it takes so long. The tediousness led to a lot of boredom, but overall it felt nice to see a clip that looked like it could be put on afternoon bad TV. The transitions weren't super clean, but I found adjusting audio introductions could help make it less rigid and more fluid.
The timeline was my biggest enemy. Everything was going well until I accidentally deleted my entire sequence and couldn't save myself with the undo button. When I restarted, I took a little break from editing when I realized my small 30 minutes of work was all gone. It might sound like nothing, but it felt like everything. I found a lot of issues with the workspace fitting what I needed and it being too small to work efficiently.

My favorite part of this project was definitely adding shapes and text to the clip with the manager interview. I think this attributes to the long list of reasons I should do a magazine, because how is adding graphic elements more fun than the actual video? Who knows. This is the biggest success I had, since I wanted to learn more about having the graphics fade out and have more transparent boxes.

Overall, my takeaway from this project is not just that I shouldn't do the film project, even as apparent as I've made it seem - I learned a lot about video editing, and I think it will come in handy in my CCR since it will open up my options to different forms of media to reflect on my portfolio. It's equally as important as the main media that I will make, so I will keep all these techniques in mind when it's time to make my CCR. Below, you'll find my finished Practice Project!
